Cardello, Barbara H. (Kiddie)

Barbara Helen (Kiddie) Cardello, 84, wife of the late Joseph L. Cardello, died on Saturday Sept 25, 2014 at Arden Court of Avon, CT. Born on June 5, 1930 in Hartford, CT she was the daughter of the late Josephine (Wesolowski) and Edward Stones. Barbara is survived by her sons, Dennis Cardello and his wife, Jean, of New Hartford, CT, Thomas Cardello and his wife, Ilene, of Winchester, CT, Joseph (Jay) Cardello and his wife, Cara, of E. Granby, CT, her daughter, Deborah Hutchinson of Deltona, Fla. Her eight grandchildren, Nicole Lee, Michelle Hutchinson, Matthew Tetreault, Karyn Geffriaud, Jennifer Sabo, Alyssa Cardello, Joseph Cardello and Shelby Lynn Cardello, 5 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Eleanor Kiddie, of Coventry, CT. Barbara volunteered for 30 years at the St. Francis Hospital “Cheer Cupboard”. The family wishes to thank the staff of Arden Court of Avon for their compassionate care of Barbara over the last 2 years. Memorial donations can be made to alz.org. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Wertheim, Melvin S. (Mel)

Melvin S. (Mel) Wertheim, 94, of Bloomfield, CT passed away peacefully on September 30, 2014 at home. He was born on October 16, 1919, the oldest of three sons of Max and Vera (Vosburgh) Wertheim. He lived in the Hartford area all of his life and was the beloved husband of Marie (House) Wertheim for over 70 years. He attended Weaver High School and Mount Hermon Academy. He served during WWII as a member of the 1st Army 965th Field Artillery Division and was awarded The Purple Heart for wounds received on March 17, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge. He spent his career in the insurance business, but he was known for his entrepreneurial spirit developing business ventures here and a far. He worked with Catholic Family Services here in Hartford to sponsor a Vietnamese Refugee Family in the early 80’s. He helped them find employment, purchase a home and educate their children. Mel’s attachment to that family remains today. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard Wertheim and Conrad Wertheim. In addition to his wife Marie, he is survived by five children and their spouses, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild; Mark and Allicia Wertheim of Madison, CT (Paul, Peter, and Teddy); Linda and Jim Graydon of Farmington, CT (Sam and Emma); Nancy and David Creed of W. Hartford, CT (Christophany, Andrew, Tyler, and great granddaughter Madeline); Lisa and Dominique Brault of Naples, FL, and Philip and Pam Wertheim of Farmington, CT (Olivia and Zachary). The family wishes to thank Dorothy Stephenson and Diane Thompson for their many years of devoted care. Friends may visit with the family at Carbone’s Kitchen, 6 Wintonbury Mall, Bloomfield on Saturday, October 4th from 12:30-3 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
