Farraye, Marie

Marie Elizabeth Farraye, 69, of Naples, FL and Avon, CT beloved wife of Dr. Joseph J. Farraye, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center after a two year battle with cancer. She was born March 11, 1940 in Paterson, NJ, daughter of the late Alfonso and Mary Moschetti and had lived in Avon for the past 35 years, and Naples, FL for the past 15 years. Mrs. Farraye was a reading teacher who received her formal BA in Education from Paterson State Teacher’s College and a MA in Reading Remediation from Paterson State. She taught elementary school in Totowa Borough, NJ. She accompanied her husband at the University of Bologna Medical School for 5 years and cherished every moment with her father’s family in Taranta Peligna. Besides her husband of 45 years, she is survived by her children, Marc J. Farraye and his wife Donna K. Farraye of St. Augustine, FL and Nicole M. Gresh and her husband Thomas T. Gresh of Avon, CT; five grandsons, Daniel L. Farraye, Andrew J. Farraye, Nicholas L. Farraye, Jacob T. Gresh, and Tyler J. Gresh; two brothers Rocco Merlino and Nick Merlino, two sisters Elizabeth Merlino and Pearle Merlino; many brother and sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Jennie DeSista, Rose DeMaria and two brothers, Fred Moschetti and Rocco Moschetti. Marie spent much of her winter leisure time in Naples, FL at the Cedar Hammock Golf and Country Club and many summers at the Golf Club of Avon enjoying her favorite pastime golf. Marie was an avid reader and an active participant at the Church of St. Ann in Avon as a lector and religious education teacher. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday January 29th from 4-8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday January 30th at 10 am in the Church of St. Ann, Arch Rd., Avon. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Cancer Center at St. Francis Hospital, 114 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.
