It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving Father and friend James J. Bergen, 86, of Farmington, husband of the late Norine (O’Leary) Bergen, passed away peacefully Monday, April 1st at Avon Health Center. Born in Farmington, June 25th, 1926, son of the late John and Martha (Pasternak) Bergen, he resided in town all his life. Jim was a self-employed carpenter, a founding member of the West Avon Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a member for 47 years and retired from CBT in 1988. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II having served with distinction in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operation. He was a communicant at the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Unionville. Jim is survived by his two sons and their wives, James T. and Lorrie Bergen of West Hartford and David E. and Jean Bergen of Burlington, his brother David Bergen of Granby, two grandchildren Jennifer and Jamie Bergen, he was predeceased by his granddaughter Spring Bergen. He also leaves a great grandchild Cody as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Wednesday (Apr. 3) from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Thursday (Apr. 4) at 9:15am followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 10:00am. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Avon Volunteer Fire Department, 25 Darling Drive, Avon, CT 06001.
