Legowski, John Theodore

John Theodore Legowski, 97, of Unionville, faithful husband and beloved father, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Feb 1 following a long, rich and enthusiastic journey. John began life in Collinsville, one of 8 children born to recent immigrants, Jan and Marianna (Piwnicki) Legowski. He attended the two-room elementary school at Sand Bank Hill Road in Burlington, and the Canton High School. He held many odd jobs, starting at age 8 (stove lighter at school) and continuing in earnest upon the sudden death of his father in 1937, taking a job as machine operator at the Bristol Brass Corporation in 1939, and finally retiring as General Foreman in 1986.

In 1946, John married his sweetheart, Bruna Marie Bonini, at St Mary Star of the Sea in Unionville. Theirs was a long and admirable marriage, the memory of which John cherished since Bruna’s death in 2013.

A longstanding communicant of St Mary Star of the Sea parish, John was honored to serve for many years as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus and a member, as well as one-time Treasurer, of the Unionville Lions Club.

John leaves his son and loving caretaker, John (TJ) Legowski Jr of Unionville, his two daughters, Louise Legowski of Brooklyn, NY and Teresa Marshall of Conifer CO, and their spouses, Harold Strickland and David Marshall, and his three grandsons, Samuel Strickland, Patrick Marshall and Matthew Marshall. John is also survived by three sisters, Wanda Karpo of Avon, Marion LaPlante of Tallahassee, FL, and Martha Holinka of Lincolnton, NC, his brother and wife, Edward and Charlotte Legowski of Farmington, cousin Helen (Piwnicki) Grocki of Avon, sisters/brothers-in-law, Elsie Tallmadge, Eleanor Parsons, Elizabeth Faitella, Arnold, James and Henry Bonini, and many nieces and nephews.

    TJ,Louise & Terri,
You Father was One-of-a-Kind as a Man and as a Yankee Fan.
I will never forget the ride back to Cape Cod from the game at Fenway where the locals in an early inning knocked out Pinstripes ace starter Whitey Ford, with Big Bill Momboquette getting the win for the Sox. It sure was a long–but quiet–ride back to Yarmouth.
I pray your Father is enjoying a fresh feed of fish, as have many fine Fishers of Men before him.

  3. Chris Silansky says:
