Connors, Maureen

Maureen “Monnie” Hayes Connors passed away peacefully from this life on Tuesday, August 17, 2010. She was born on July 28, 1933, to Edmond J. and Ellen (Landers) Hayes and was raised in the Frog Hollow section of Hartford, CT. She was a proud 1951 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy, a 1954 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing and a 1988 graduate of Post University. She began her nursing career, which became a lifelong passion, at St. Francis Hospital that spanned more than 44 years. Monnie loved being a nurse and felt she truly made a difference in the lives of her patients. She worked as a delivery room nurse, supervisor, and Assistant Director of Nursing Service OB/GYN, NICU, and Pediatrics. She later changed specialties to Gastroenterology and became board certified. After retirement in 1998, she volunteered at St. Francis Hospital in the Cancer Center’s Butterfly Boutique. She was a long term member and recent board member of the St. Francis Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. Monnie was a voracious reader and was always surrounded by her books. She had a great sense of humor, a quick wit and loved all things Irish. She was a fun loving, supportive and selfless mother who was the cornerstone of our family. She was a loyal and honest friend. Monnie may best be remembered for her bright green eyes and warm, friendly smile. As we grieve that she is gone from our world, we rejoice that we have had her for so long, for the extraordinary life that she led, and for her kind heart and spirit which will live on in her children and grandchildren for generations to come. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, William T. Connors, III and his wife, Lori, of West Hartford, Daniel H. Connors of Farmington, Kathleen C. O’Brien and her husband, Robert, of Avon and Anne C. Catillo and her husband, Vito of Farmington. Monnie was the adored “Nana” to seven grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Ryan, Haley, Moira, Katie, Mia, Patrick and Sarah. She also leaves her former husband and friend, William T. Connors, Jr. of West Hartford, her sister, Kathleen H. McGuinness of Farmington, her brother and sister in law, Edmond J. and Katherine Hayes of Mystic, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the staff of Masonicare Partners and River Ridge of Avon as well as to her many caregivers during the past year. Monnie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday (Aug. 22) from 3-7 p.m. at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main Street, Rt. 4, Unionville.
