Dean, George Howard

George Howard Dean, 97, beloved husband of the late Doris M.F. (LaChance) Dean entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 29, 2018 at St. Mary’s Home in West Hartford. He was born in Agawam, MA, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Dean. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and after serving his country, moved to Hartford, CT. George was a loving husband, father, pepere, and friend to many. For the past 73 years he has been a communicant of St. Joseph Cathedral. Having been raised on a farm, George was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. George was well known in his community as someone who was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
He is survived by his seven children, Daniel and Cindy Dean of Nashua, NH, Robert and Gloria Dean of Newington, Carol and Mark Gilbert of Marlborough, Priscilla Prior and her late husband William Prior of Colchester, George J. Dean of Lawndale, CA, James Dean of West Hartford, and Jacqueline and John Kiefel of Downingtown, PA. He also leaves behind his thirteen grandchildren, Daniel Jr., Stephen, Melissa, Christopher, Heather, Jessica, Leah, Christina, Matthew, Jason, Justin, Jocelyn, and Jennifer, as well as his 7 great grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, Heather, Sean Jr., Ebon, Sara, and Victoria. He was predeceased by his grandson, Josiah Kiefel, his 3 brothers, John, Frank and Albert, and his 4 sisters, Sue, Veronica, Rita, and Rosemary.
Friends may call at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Ave., Hartford on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Joseph Cathedral Food Pantry, 140 Farmington Ave, Hartford, CT, 06105-3708.
