Ashley, Robert

Robert E. Ashley, 83, of Unionville, beloved husband of Evelyn (Trocchi) Ashley, passed away Tuesday, August 10th. Born in Meriden, May 5th, 1927, son of the late Albert and Bertha (Tetro) Ashley. Prior to retiring, Bob was employed in the Shipping Department at Scovill Manufacturing in Watertown. He was a decorated United States Army veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded twice in battle and also earned the Combat Infantryman Badge for his service in action. He was a longtime communicant at the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Unionville, was a lifetime member of VFW Post #10361 in Farmington, member of the Tunxis Senior Citizens Association, member of the Tunxis Bowling League, member of the AMFA Country Western Club in Torrington and loved his trips to Mohegan Sun Casino. Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children, Linda Fagan of Plainville, Joseph Roy of Warwick, RI, David Roy of Farmington and Wayne Miner of Little Elm, TX, his sister Gladys Makara of Newport, NC, his brother Walter Ashley of Deland, FL, eight grandchildren and two great grandsons. He was predeceased by his cherished granddaughter Alyssa Roy. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday (Aug. 13) from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Saturday (Aug. 14) at 9:15am followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 10:00am. Burial with full military honors will be in West Cemetery, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 306 Industrial Park Road, Suite 105, Middletown, CT 06457.
