Whitham, Charlotte (Kasmer)

Charlotte (Kasmer) Whitham of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, (November 13, 2019) surrounded by loved ones in the home she built together with her husband, Leslie Whitham in 1967. She was born in New Britain on March 30, 1935. She was the beloved daughter of the late Walter and Sophia (Grabowski) Kasmer. She grew up in Newington and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and her master’s degree from Central Connecticut State College.
She was the wife of Leslie Carl Whitham; the two celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past July. When she first introduced Leslie to her grandmother, “Babcia”, her Babcia immediately said Charlotte would “marry that one”. Ever since then the two soul mates have always been at each other’s side.
Charlotte was a Pulaski and New Brittan High School teacher for many years, loved by all who passed through her class and dedicated to making a difference in her students’ lives. She was an active member of the Student Prince Stein Club, a UCONN basketball and Red Sox fan, an avid reader, and beach lover. Above all she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a loyal friend.
She was predeceased by her adored daughter Charless Ann Whitham. Charlotte leaves two children, Susan and her husband Peter Salvia, of Sudbury, MA, and Leslie Whitham of Farmington. Charlotte was everything to her three children.
She was the most loved grandmother of her eight grandchildren, Paige and her husband David Bryant, of Boston, MA, Sarah Salvia, of New York, NY, Alex and his wife Lili Kliminsky, of West Chester, PA, Peter Salvia, of Boston, MA, Leslie Carl, Victoria, Amanda and Douglas Whitham of Newton, MA. Charlotte was also blessed with two great-grandsons who brought her endless joy, Christian and Chase Bryant.
She is survived by her loving brother Charles and his wife Sheila Kasmer, of Bristol. Charles and Charlotte always took care of each other. Charlotte was the aunt of Joy Kasmer, Walter Kasmer and his wife Yasuko, Dr. Lisa Kasmer, and Charles and Donna Kasmer and daughter Molly.
Nothing made Charlotte happier than spending time with her family and friends, including those friends she considered family, Frank, Diane, Darlene and Laura.
Charlotte’s family will receive relatives and friends Sunday (Nov. 17) from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main Street, Unionville. Private family services and burial will take place Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis Foundation, 95 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105, https://www.saintfrancisdonor.com/.
