Johnson, Dorothy

Dorothy (House) Johnson, of Farmington, widow of Carl L. Johnson, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 20th, four days following her 97th birthday. Born May 16th, 1913 in Hartford, daughter of the late Edward R. and Ann (Shea) House, Dot was a graduate of Weaver High School, Class of 1931. Prior to retiring, she worked many years with the City of Hartford Board of Education at Rawson School where she was the Secretary to the Principal. Dot and Carl commuted together for forty plus years from their cherished home in Avon to their workplaces in Hartford. Upon retiring from Rawson School, Dot spent many years as the Executive Assistant to Headmaster Charles Todd at the Watkinson School. Dot and Carl greatly enjoyed the outdoors and their frequent weekend getaways to Manchester, Vermont to see their longtime friends Frank and Maige Harrigan where they would snowshoe and sit and enjoy their fires and also spent many of their summer vacations up at the Cape in Orleans. She was always glad to see her many nieces and nephews as well as her grand nieces and nephews, and served as second parents to them all. She lived her long life with a wonderful and positive outlook which was enjoyed by everyone! Dot is survived by her sister Marie H. Wertheim and her husband Mel of Bloomfield, her sister-in-law Ruth Johnson Jester of Big Fork, MT and will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sisters Ann House and Lucille House. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to The Gables in Farmington, The McLean Visiting Nurses and Hospice Staff in Simsbury, and the staff at Valerie Manor in Torrington for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Dot. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Tuesday (May 25) from 9:30-10:30am. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Tuesday (May 25) at 10:30am followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 11:00am. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
