McLoughlin, Thomas MD

Thomas Francis McLoughlin, M.D., 80, of Hartford, beloved husband of Kathleen (Scherer) McLoughlin, passed away peacefully Friday, April 23rd. Born in Brooklyn, NY, October 20th, 1929, son of the late Thomas and Rita (Green) McLoughlin. He was a graduate of Fordham University and a graduate of the Medical School at University College Cork in Cork, Ireland. He completed his Internship and Residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, practiced Medicine at Cedarcrest Hospital, Mt. Sinai Emergency Department and at Everyday Medical Clinic where he retired in 1997. Tom was a great doctor, a kind, gentle, loving, peaceful man and a loving, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a voracious reader and active in peace and justice. Besides his wife, he is survived by his six children, Thomas McLoughlin and Hollie Hecht of Pine Meadow, Kathleen McLoughlin Cliffton and her husband Sam of Castleton, VA, Maura McLoughlin and James Warner of New Hartford, Sharon Martino-Smith and her husband Timothy of Windsor, Arthur Martino and his wife Norma of Colchester, and Scott Martino and his husband Ryan Landry of Dorchester, MA, and four grandchildren, Samuel Smith Cliffton, Rita Mae Cliffton, Andrew Martino and Shane Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday (Apr. 30) at 10:30am in St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hartford Catholic Worker, 18 Clark St., Hartford, CT 06120. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc.
