Theresa Pia Daugherty was born in Stamford, CT on May 27, 1930 and entered into eternal life on April 15, 2010 at River Ridge in Avon, CT. Theresa was the daughter of Jerry Pia of Italy and Angela Gulla Pia of Sicily. Theresa was well known for her beautiful voice and talent on the piano. She loved to sing & play for family and friends. Theresa turned down a scholarship to
Juilliard to attended St. Raphaels School of Nursing where she received her RN. Upon graduation, she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stamford. She married her husband of 33 years, Robert S. Daugherty on October 10, 1959 and had five children. Theresa returned to nursing after raising her children and worked for Drs. Rothenberg and Roselli in Avon, CT. She was well regarded by both her coworkers and patients, who knew her as Terry. The love and devotion she extended to them will not be forgotten. Theresa was a communicant of St. Mary’s Parish in Unionville and St. Patrick’s Parish in Farmington. A devout Christian, Theresa led by example. A believer in the power of prayer, Theresa devoted time each day to pray the Rosary with her husband and five children. Theresa always ensured that there was plenty of room around the dinner table for her children’s friends. She leaves behind a warm glow on all that shared her light, and a spirit that nursed the souls of all she encountered. Theresa had a strong belief in the importance of family and instilled that belief and tradition in all of her children and grandchildren. Terry was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Bob, in 1992, and her brother Michael. She is survived by her five children, William T. Daugherty and his partner Mark Pappalardo of Colchester CT, Christopher C. Daugherty and his wife Jacqueline of Farmington CT, Bobbi Moran and her husband Bernie of West Hartford CT, Melanie Melocowsky and her husband Paul of Glastonbury CT, and Tracey Staehle and her husband Bradley of Simsbury CT. Theresa is also survived by her grandchildren, Conor Moran, Samantha Moran, Caroline Moran, Jack Rian Moran, Zachary Daugherty, Jacob Daugherty, Alexandra Daugherty, Joshua Daugherty, Sydney Melocowsky, Kayley Melocowsky, Cali Melocowsky, Scarlett Staehle, and Austin Pappalardo and his wife Morgan, and their daughter Laela Pappalardo. She is also survived by her brothers Thomas and Alphonse Pia, and their wives Janet and Tess, along with nine nieces and nephews. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday (Apr. 23) from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Saturday (Apr. 24) at 11:15am followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 12:00pm.
