William Timothy Collins, Sr., 82, of Farmington, son of the late John J. Collins, Sr. and Elsie (Gustafson) Collins, entered into eternal rest on April 14, 2010 at Hartford Hospital. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Martha Anne (Marchenko) Collins, his daughter Geralyn A. (Collins) Zeigler and her husband Robert (Butch) Zeigler of Port St. Lucie, Florida, his son William T. Collins, Jr., and his wife Susan J. Collins of Farmington, and his three grandsons, Robert Cory Zeigler of Florida, and William T. Collins III and Brian N. Collins of Farmington. Bill is also survived by his older brother John J. Collins, Jr. of Watertown and his wife Dorothy, and many nieces and nephews that he held dear in his heart. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Lawrence (Buddy) Collins and Robert Collins, and his sister Elsie (Collins) Sarra. Bill grew up in Waterbury and attended Leavenworth High School. He was a runner in early years and holds ribbons for this event. Bill had been employed by Apex Machine in Farmington and was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Oakville, Ct. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and helped protect our country by patrolling the East Coast during World War II. Bill loved his family “such my heart” and over the years he enjoyed watching his grandsons grow and watching their sporting events. He enjoyed doing his yard work, playing his lottery tickets, attending Mass at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception where he was married, and watching the Red Sox win the World Series… twice! He was a feisty Irishman with a kind heart and great humor.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Sunday (Apr. 18) from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Monday (Apr. 19) at 9:15 A.M. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Patrick, 110 Main Street, Farmington, at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St., P.O.
