Skirvin, Maria

Maria Malvicini Skirvin, of Farmington, passed away at home on Thursday (June 10, 2010) surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born June 9, 1960, the daughter of Louise (Barile) and the late Rudolph Malvicini, Maria is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) and son, Taylor and was predeceased by her son, Rudy. Maria was a lifelong resident of Farmington where she attended Farmington High School. A graduate of Tunxis Community College, Maria was a dental hygienist who was loved by all her patients. Maria had many diverse interests in her life including love of exercise and the outdoors. She especially found great peace walking with her golden retrievers. She was a founding member of Hearts of Hope, a support group for bereaved mothers. One of Maria’s greatest joys was teaching religious education classes where she had the unique talent to teach children about faith and God in a way they could embrace and carry with them throughout their lives. She was a role model to everyone fortunate to know her. Her gift of friendship goes beyond words. A loving and loyal daughter, wife, mother, and friend, she would always greet you with her beautiful smile, open heart, and a warm hug. Throughout her life she approached each experience with courage, love, dignity, grace, and a deep faith in God. We were blessed to have Maria in our lives. She was a role model to all who knew her and will be forever in our hearts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Unionville on Tuesday (June 15, 2010) at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dr. Nancy Kemeny Pump Research Fund, Sloan-Kettering Hospital, 1275 York Avenue, NY, NY 10065, Attn: Sandy H-1914.
