Mary Elizabeth Porter R.N., 73, of Burlington, beloved wife of Charles W. Porter, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 24th. Born in Pittsfield, MA, June 9th, 1939, daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Pelissier) Savery. Mary was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, Class of 1957 and the Nursing School at Greater Hartford College, Class of 1983. During her nursing career, she was associated with New Britain General Hospital and Nursing Care Center in Bristol and later served as Assistant Director of Nursing at Countryside Manor in Bristol until her retirement. Mary was a communicant at the Church of St. Patrick in Collinsville. Besides her husband, she is survived by her four children, Kathleen M. Gotlibowski and her husband Paul of Bristol; Stephen C. Porter and his wife Marie of Burlington; Shawn A. Porter and his wife Deborah of Avon; and Christine M. Beechey and her husband James of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Nicole Brady. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Wednesday (Mar. 27) from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Thursday (Mar. 28) at 9:15am followed by the Liturgy of the Word in the Church of St. Patrick, 7 Burlington Ave., Collinsville at 10:00am. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nicole E. Brady Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o First Bristol Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 698, Bristol, CT 06011-0698.

Mary touched everyone she met with her kindness, her sincerity, and the way she found humor in almost everything. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. She was a rare combination of strength and compassion, and she made the world a better place. Rest in peace.
