History

The Ahern Funeral Home, Inc is a family owned and operated business located in the greater Hartford area for more than 135 years. Established in 1886, we have two locations — Hartford and Unionville, Connecticut. We are committed to offering the best funeral services to families in our community.

The Ahern Funeral Home, Inc. was founded in 1886 by J.J. Ahern and Francis Ahern in the city of Hartford, on the corner of Main and Pearl. Later, the funeral home was moved to 100 Pearl Street, where the business was conducted until 1906, when they built the first building used specifically for funeral services in the city of Hartford at 101 Chapel Street.

In 1934, The Ahern Funeral Home, Inc moved to its current location at 180 Farmington Avenue, where the business was operated by the nephews of the two founders, brothers Francis R. Ahern and Albert T. Ahern.

The Ahern Funeral Home, Inc remains today in the same location, under the supervision of Francis R. Ahern’s children, Francis R. Ahern and Sarah Ahern-Jordan.

In 1974, the Ahern family expanded their operation with the purchase of an additional funeral home in Unionville, Connecticut. The Unionville location services the Farmington Valley. The Ahern Funeral Home has been family-owned and operated and has served the greater Hartford area for four generations.
