Ricci, Robert

Robert “Bob” Ricci, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at home in Farmington, CT surrounded by his family. The eldest child of Angelo and Albina (Orzo) Ricci, he was born on September 30, 1924 in Bristol, CT. Graduating high school early in 1943 to enlist in WWII, he served three years as Quartermaster in the US Navy in the Asian Pacific and European Theatres on the USS Baker, USS Franklin Bell and USS Tolovana. He earned combat medals and was honorably discharged in 1946. He later graduated with the first class of the Culinary Arts Institute. Bob married the love of his life, Faye, in 1949. A manufacturer’s representative for most of his career, he had a strong work ethic. Bob was generous with his time and talents, showing deep compassion for the less fortunate. He taught his children and grandchildren by example to be hard working, independent and uncompromising. His life was his family, his church, his love of cooking, Big Band dancing, playing Setback, making things grow and the NY Yankees. A lifelong and devout Catholic, Bob acted as lector at Mass every Sunday. He was honored by Holy Family Monastery for participation in 25+ spiritual retreats. During the war, he led his ship’s Sunday scripture readings. He and Faye spent their retirement years as snow birds traveling between Venice, FL and Farmington. Bob will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Faye (L’Heureux), his daughters Eileen(Tom)Moylan of Brewster, MA; Lorry(Dan)Belanger of Avon, CT; Donna Ricci (Dave Kelley) of Kennebunk, ME; Catherine Ricci of Worcester, MA and son Mark (Jill) Ricci of Granby,CT; siblings and their spouses Richard Ricci of Holyoke MA; (Mary) Catherine and Chet Dawidczyk of Clinton, CT; Paul Ricci of Anaheim,CA; and Elizabeth and George Foeller of Hudson, IL. He will always be “Pa” to his grandchildren Amy, Meg, Chrissie, Emily, Dave, Zac, Libby, Peter, Andrew, and Ali; and great-grandchildren John, Fiona, Luca, Mia and Cayden. His maternal great grandmother was Filomena Pera Scrivano of Paola, Italy (mother of his grandfather Pasquale Orzo). He is predeceased by his parents and his nonna, Caterina (Amendola) Orzo, whom he loved and who loved him unconditionally.
